There is an innate fascination with the human face.

Early on I was drawing faces of people at random in pencil. That fascination keeps returning no matter the medium used or other subjects or projects. Once, when joining a Plein Air group at Stoney Point, a man and his child stopped on their walk around the park. The young boy was heard to exclaim, "Look Daddy that man is painting a portrait of a rock". That is exactly the point of the exercise. For me, no matter the subject it is practice for shape and form that can be applied to portraiture.
